Banner Printing

Banners are arguably the most versatile type of signage. You see them everywhere — indoors and outdoors — as they have been used by different types of businesses including hotels, local services, public transportation, restaurants, and retailers, to name a few. Banners are affordable and easy to produce but with the economy still reeling from the effects of the recession, you have to make sure that every advertising dollar counts. Banners will only serve their purpose if they are well designed. There are only two types of banners: memorable ones and forgettable ones. Here are the things that you need to remember if you want to make your banner printing project a success:

Designing Banners That Sell

The message. When it comes to designing banners and other types of signage, less is usually more because you only have seconds to capture the attention of your potential clients or customers. Keep your message short, simple, and sweet. If you can’t say what you need to say in two lines, then a banner is probably not the right medium for you. A bigger banner is the better banner because it is easier to see but this doesn’t mean that you can fill your sign from top to bottom.

For example, Arete Digital Imaging, a large format printing company puts up a banner that says: “Arete Digital Imaging/Car Wraps/Vehicle Wraps/Architectural Wraps/Banners/Wall Graphics/We Provide All of Your Business Printing Needs!/Call (323)464.4828.” Saying “Arete Digital Imaging: We Provide All of Your Business Printing Needs/Call (323)464.4828” would have sufficed. Remember: drivers and pedestrians are just passing by and don’t have enough time to finish reading a long message. Additionally, your sign is just one of many that are competing for their attention.

Typography. Stick to one type of font. Your message would be harder to read if you use multiple font styles. Choose fonts that are easy to read from a distance. The font you choose should also be appropriate for the type of business that you operate. Avoid using upper case on the entire message because it takes the human eye longer to read and process capital letters. Use all caps only on a word or a line that you want to highlight.

Colors and graphics. Use your company’s logo, color scheme, and supporting images as long as they enhance your message, not take the attention of your viewers away from it. Use color combinations that provide high contrast between the background and the text to make your message stand out. You can also choose colors based on the emotions that they evoke. According to The Sign User’s Guide: A Marketing Aid, the two most readable and successful color combinations are black on yellow and black on white.

Choosing the Right Material for Your Banner Printing Project

If you need your banners to last for a long time, you’ll need to choose the right material, ink, and printer. The rule of thumb is the higher the quality of material you use, the longer the lifespan of your banner. You’ll need to protect your banner from pollutants, the sun, the wind, and other weather conditions. They also need to be professionally installed so they can serve their purpose for a longer period of time. Entrust your banner printing project to the experts.
